CMN Hospitals Launches Children’s Hospitals COVID-19 Impact Fund
We understand the COVID-19 situation is critical for children’s hospitals. To help meet their need we have launched the “Children’s Hospitals COVID 19 Impact Fund.” Unrestricted funds are vital to many children’s hospitals right now and we know they can be used toward things like personal protective equipment, critical operational expenses due to a significant loss of revenue and help fill the funding gap that will widen as more children lose private insurance coverage.
Below additional details for the Children’s Hospitals COVID-19 Impact Fund as well as the general talking points.
Why are we launching this campaign?
The COVID 19 Pandemic is diverting resources and disrupting the normal revenue streams of our children’s hospital members. Fundraising activities have been postponed or canceled as well as patient procedures and reimbursements. This fund is designed to raise critical funds to help hospitals weather this storm and ensure they can help all kids today and in the future.
You can find the talking points, guidelines and creative elements here. We will be updating and adding items regularly.
How will it make a difference?
A few hospitals have started their own COVID-19 funds, but many do not have the time or resources to develop and enlist the technology to do so on their own. This is where we come in. Because we represent local hospitals in every community we can create an efficient fundraising tool and materials to emphasize the needs of children’s hospitals. We can leverage our existing channels, influencers, PSA distribution and other resources to get out the message and raise much-needed funds. Through this fund, anyone, anywhere can support their local hospital. Because the funds are unrestricted each hospital can use them for their greatest need. Funds will be disbursed through our normal disbursement cycle and process.
How will this campaign work with partners and hospitals?
First of all, we are launching this effort as a CMN Hospitals initiative to support our hospitals. The Impact Fund will be promoted on the CMN Hospitals website with a banner, through our social channels, our PSA distribution and to our email subscribers. You can visit the website directly at www.kidscantwait.org.
Participation by our partners and hospitals is completely optional and can be adapted to their needs. The materials we have created can be customized and localized as needed. Should you be interested, you can work with your Area Director to have those localized.
How will this work with #ChildrensHospitalsWeek messaging next week?
The Kid’s Can’t Wait line was already part of overarching #ChildrensHospitalsWeek messaging. We are simply adapting the Call to Action to support the Children’s Hospitals COVID-19 Impact Fund to make it more timely and relevant. When people click through to the web site they will see the call to action to give to the COVID-19 Impact Fund.
Is this our only official messaging?
No. This effort is an urgent response to support our hospitals during this difficult time. As will all fundraising campaigns, partnerships and events will adapt messaging to best meet the needs of the partner, the timing snd situation. This campaign is designed for people and organizations specifically wanting to help hospitals during this time and tie their efforts to helping with COVID-19 Impact.
Can we track fundraising?
Yes. The website will auto-populate the local hospital, based on IP address and location data. Hospital donations will be tracked by ZIP code as they currently are on our web site and hospitals will be able to access web site donation information as they do today. Hospitals can even get email notifications of donations if they sign up for them. The website fundraising reports are available on the website admin.
Overall Children’s Hospitals COVID 19 Impact Fund Talking Points
Children’s hospitals are committed to serving their local communities through the COVID-19 pandemic. To meet these urgent demands, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals is committed to ensuring 170 children’s hospitals across North America have the resources they need to care for the most vulnerable kids. The reality is: Kids Can’t Wait … for a cure, for the curve to flatten or for an economic boost. They need children’s hospitals now more than ever.
Here are some ways donations to the Children’s Hospitals COVID-19 Impact Fund help:
More equipment — Healthcare professionals are in need of additional protective equipment and ventilators to care for kids who are sick and an anticipated influx of COVID-19 patients.
Operations — Children’s hospitals are suspending treatments to further protect the health and safety of their communities, requiring alternative sources of funding for everyday operations. Philanthropy ensures kids have care close to home when they need it most.
Charitable care — Growing unemployment rates indicate more families are losing health benefits. The already significant gap between what is covered by insurance and government programs and what it actually costs to care for kids is continuing to widen.
Child life resources — Experts in helping kids cope with uncertainties, child life specialists at children’s hospitals are sharing resources with families to help them manage heightened stress and anxiety, and spending time with patients whose loved ones can’t be in hospitals.
Virtual care — Children’s hospitals rely on virtual technology to continue caring for kids while they are home and to reserve beds for the sickest patients.
Research — Scientists at children’s hospitals are helping in the fight to find COVID-19 cures and treatments.
