Best Practice – Seattle Children’s Community Days

Written by Dondi Cupp, SVP, Chief Development Officer, Seattle Children’s

Seattle Children’s recently organized a new stewardship event to honor corporate sponsors and community donors. The event brought together donors and patient ambassadors for a family-friendly day filled with appreciation, connection, and celebration.

Community Day was designed to recognize and steward community, corporate and third-party donors for fundraising activities from the prior calendar year, regardless of the amount raised. It is an evolution of a previous stewardship event for CMN Hospitals donors — expanding the audience to all community and corporate donors.

Event organizers created a fun and celebratory experience for guests with face painting and a photo booth, as well as opportunities for check presentation photos and networking activities for community fundraisers. The event took place at a Seattle Children’s Research Institute facility, providing guests with an opportunity to connect with the impact of their giving, meet patient families and hear directly from Seattle Children’s leaders.

The program included a conversation with a patient ambassador family, an award presentation to both CMN Hospitals-affiliated and community donors, and recognized six partners with special awards for exceptional service and support.

Beyond acknowledging contributions, Community Day fostered a sense of belonging and unity within the Seattle Children’s donor community. From major donors like Costco to a soccer team that raised money for their teammate, the energy in the room demonstrated the common enthusiasm for Seattle Children’s mission.

Recognizing and appreciating corporate sponsors and community donors is crucial to sustaining the hospital’s mission and creating a brighter future for the children we serve. We look forward to making Community Day an annual stewardship event at Seattle Children’s.
