Play Yellow: 2020 Planning Update

Earlier this month, Barbara Nicklaus was honored by the PGA of America as the 2019 Distinguished Service Award recipient. This award is given once a year, and we couldn’t think of anyone more deserving than her. Barbara and Jack’s commitment to supporting children’s healthcare is second to none and we are grateful to have them support our Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals through Play Yellow.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Jack and Barbara last week to discuss Play Yellow as we work to finalize our plans for 2020. They are excited about the growth of Play Yellow this past year and looking forward to some even bigger things to come in 2020.

Below is a status update on some areas we discussed at our Fall Business Meeting with many of your along with your Program Directors:

Play Yellow Family Golf Day

This new initiative is designed to create a focused time where we can engage local golf courses in support of their local CMN Hospital. Tentatively planned for Sunday, June 7, 2020, we are working through many of the details to prepare for an official role out in January 2020. We have been in discussions with the PGA of America about their support of the program and have strong interest from them. We have also begun discussions with several golf course management companies with several already committing to support the initiative.

Over the next few months, we will begin sending out some communications to the Program Directors with how this program will work and what steps they will need to take to participate in this initiative. We will also be publicly launching the initiative at the 2020 PGA Merchandise Show this January in Orlando, FL.

Professional Golf Events

We recently met with the PGA TOUR to discuss their continued support of Play Yellow. They are committed to helping us with their tournament partners along with marketing and media partners. In 2019, we worked with a handful of PGA TOUR events and are looking to grow that to around 20 in 2020 across the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Champions, and Korn Ferry Tour. In addition, we are also in discussions with a few LPGA events and looking to expand our partnership with the Golf Channel for the World Long Drive Association.

Topgolf

Topgolf is launching a new charitable strategy for 2020 and has selected CMN Hospitals as one of their official charitable partners. We are excited about this new partnership and what it will bring to Play Yellow. For 2020, we are going to be rolling this out in limited markets and are working with Topgolf to identify those markets. We will be contacting those markets in the next few weeks to begin discussions about how this new program will work. For other markets not selected for 2020, we are exploring some additional opportunities that we hope to bring to all our CMN Hospitals markets that have a Topgolf facility.

Play Yellow Resource Guide

For all of our CMN Hospitals markets that what like to activate Play Yellow at your local events in 2020, we are working on developing a more comprehensive resource guide to help assist you with the planning of these events. This guide is being designed to help create efficiencies and drive value back to your local events through tournament planning consultation, marketing and branding assets, and brand partner merchandise. These assets will be available on PlayYellow.org with an anticipated launch of our updated site in January 2020. If there are areas that we can help you with before then, please contact Chad Phillips, SVP, Play Yellow, at cphillips@cmnhospitals.org or Ben Parker, Head Pro, Play Yellow, at bparker@cmnhospitals.org.
